How I Started
I came into counselling after working for several years with homeless people who had mental health and addiction issues, many of whom had experienced tough times growing up. I loved working with people and supporting them to change so headed back to school to get the skills to do it better. During my training, I was a counsellor in a general counselling service in Bradford and a local men's prison which I still volunteer at now.
Qualifications, Training and Experience
As well as a BA degree and a PGCE from my life before being a therapist, I have a Postgraduate Certificate in interpersonal and counselling skills and a Postgraduate Diploma in counselling and psychotherapy. I commit to regular professional development and training in relevant subjects and skills. I also offer practical and emotional support to families affected by drug and alcohol use at a Bradford charity.
I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and attend regular supervision and training. How I Work
I am a Relational therapist which means that I focus on your relationship with yourself (your emotions, physical sensations, beliefs) and your relationships with others. Our first relationships with parents and caregivers often establish patterns for how we attach to other people throughout our lives. Our time together is a way to understand theses relational patterns better, empowering you to make positive and sustainable change.
I work hard to make the relationship between you and me as beneficial as possible, so you can voice what you need and make positive changes. I don’t just sit there, giving you the occasional ‘hmm’. If this might be right for you or if you have any questions , phone for a free 30 minute initial phone conversation so we can both see if we can work with each other.
